March 31, 2004 in Great Depression
Finally received a cut from varsity tennis after all the trials and errors. It feels worse than I imagined. I'm exposed now, like an innocent sheep. The truth is, I have never been a good loser; and I never will be.
March 30, 2004 in Great Depression
Played a meaningless match with Roos today in varsity tryouts. Today is probably the last day, but..no luck was with me. We each got a set and since it got dark we had to stop. Frew wants us to continue tomorrow. Really should have questioned him if that will make a difference. Sigh..
Songbird
For you there'll be no crying For you the sun will be shining Cause I feel that when I'm with you It's alright, I know it's right
And the songbirds keep singing Like they know the score And I love you, I love you, I love you Like never before
To you, I would give the world To you, I'd never be cold Cause I feel that when I'm with you It's alright, I know it's right
And the songbirds keep singing Like they know the score And I love you, I love you, I love you Like never before
Like never before; like never before.

Couldn't sleep last night. Played some tennis with jeff around 9. A happier note - I received the muji rubber.

I lost my cd player.
I miss home.
March 27, 2004 @ Paris
Stayed around the rural area instead of the city. Went to Fontainbleu - a famous town where Napoleon used to go for hunting. Spent the whole afternoon there. Dinner was one of the best I've had so far, anyway, last day, started feeling nostalgic again. Got to pack things now. Sigh..
March 26, 2004 @ Paris
Traveled to city Paris in early morning and met some of my dad's friends. Toured through the Arc du Triomph, Concorde Square, Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. Had dinner at la Pied du cuchon. It was okay. Probably more city tour tomorrow. We'll see.
March 25, 2004 @ Paris
Ate some kind of apple pie for breakfast while blaming myself for waking up at 10. Immediately hopped onto Henri's car and he drove us to Versailles. It is supposedly a 1-hour drive; however, due to an unexpected car accident and the inefficiency of French policemen, it became a 3-hour drive. Anyway, the palace itself looks magnificent and the garden behind it is stunningly beautiful. A bit annoyed since my dad was requesting a shot every single minute. He eventually comsumed the entire 256 mb, which is about 93 photos. Ce coole.
Kind of worried about my tennis skills, having not played for two weeks. Sad that I couldn't play much tennis during the spring break. I guess I am giving up varsity places unconditionally. Sigh..
March 24, 2004 @ Paris
Woke up at 9 and had croissants for breakfast. After that Henri brought us to a nearby park with geese and ducks. Had lunch in a small hotel and it was okay. Walked down to a golf club and took many closeup shots of flowers. Cooked at home for dinner just now. Very sleep again. Anyway, lifestyle is very European here, and I like it.
March 23, 2004 @ Paris
Much different day. Traveled by ICE train from Hannover to Frankfurt, then to Paris. It was a total of 8 hour train ride. Some funny man came into our compartment during the train ride and sat in front of us. Nearly all other compartments were empty but he decided to sit with us. It was very annoying yet hilarious. Anyway, just arrived in my dad's friend Henri's home. Sad to learn that the only internet available is dial-up, but it is not even working. Might as well upload this after the break. Peace.
March 22, 2004 @ CeBIT Show Day 5
Today is actually my last day here! Tomorrow at this time I will be in Paris enjoying red wine. =P
Update: There was a dinner tonight in a restaurant between hall 2 and 3 where 4000 people squeezed into one place. It was definitely overcrowded, and an interesting thing: there were only two staircases for people to get down from the second floor, would there be a fire, everyone could have died. Fortunately, I was in the ground floor. Still, people got drunk by huge jars of wine and started dancing on tables. Some crazy taiwanese guys went to the stage and occupied it. Beer and smoke were all that they cared. All though it was a mess (and it truly was), I enjoyed myself. Fairwell, CeBIT 2004, fairwell. [The wild celebration dinner]
You're mine - K700 Samsung's boothMarch 21, 2004 @ CeBIT Show Day 4
Started touring through other halls since 10am. The telecommunications hall was really fascinating (can't think of another word now), with Nokia and Sony Ericsson leading the way. Other halls are okay, but still, it is impossible to see every single thing in the show within 6 or 7 days. Anyway, two more days to go. [Sanyo's conceptual television phone]

Too busy yesterday for updates. Basically my job is to surf the net for a whole day. Went once more to the Sony booth and took many pictures this time. Fascinated by the new aibo. Would love to get one. [New Aibo]

The lovely gem - X505 Its wow factorsMarch 18, 2004 @ CeBIT Show Day 1
Had to make an 3 hour train ride after the flight from Frankfurt to Hannover. It was terrible. Anyway we found our way to the house (where I am now in) and it is occupied by some sort of Turkish people that moved out in favor of us. An old yet simple apartment with no internet connection. Doesn't matter though - wireless in cebit.
After a shower and some rest, we went to the show center around 4 pm (time when people started leaving). As always, I quickly ran to the Sony stall. I am most interested in these - W1, P100 and the X505. The W1 ends up getting much better than I thought - it feels better and a lot quicker. Same as P100, their lens basically shoot out from their bodies when the "on" button is pressed. No flash charge after using flash is required, which eliminates the pain V1 owners suffer. The X505 is of course a fascinating device that I need not mention much here. However, the real thing looks better than those pictures in Sony's websites. Much sleeker. Anyway, some photos taken today:
March 16, 2004 "It is better to regret things you do than things you don't do."
Woke up late for brunch with grandma. Continued my search for a pair of light khaki pants, but not successful. Went back home, took some rest then traveled to lcx's california pizza kitchen for dinner with friends. There were 9 of us and I bet we were the noisiest table there. Anyway the food was okay but the portion was definitely too small. We had a great time though.
Can't believe that I am actually leaving tomorrow night. Considering the fact that I won't be back till summer, this is certainly the saddest departure I'll ever encounter! Take care guys!
March 15, 2004
Went to muji and was very disappointed. First, I couldn't find the long cutter-shape rubber anymore and my guess is that they stopped selling them in hk. Secondly, most of the stationary are replaced by unwanted and cheap clothings and family stuffs. The small bags for pens became cheaper too: thin, oil and shinny material as oppose to the thick paper one. After that walked to causeway bay computer center and found the hub I wanted, but it was too expensive. So left it and had lunch in mcdonalds before playing tennis with jeff. It was okay. Tired now, sleep soon..
March 13, 2004 New tennis racquet. It made my day.

So here I am, sitting on my comfy chair, still struggling to accept the fact that I really am at home. It feels so fake.. Anyway tennis tomorrow morning, then hopefully some shopping in the afternoon.
Some random photos taken before I left:
March 9, 2004
Time to be home! Finally felt the holiday mood when I completed my term paper rough draft. A few more lessons to go tomorrow and I am done!
Played some tennis. Glad to know that I am still on the list coz two more people were cut out. So there are like 10 of us now, but still, 2 more will get a cut and I bet I am one of them. Anyway, no negative thoughts please..
Shopping List 1. Rubber 2. Pencil lead 3. Assorted pens 4. Shoes 5. Tie 6. Tennis stuff 7. DVD-Rs 8. Pants 9. Hmm..
March 8, 2004
It was an interesting day. Our departure time for jets competition was exactly one hour off - which means, I could have got a sleep in. Anyway we arrived at NHU (new haven uni) and were like the latest to start. Somehow we got started..looked pretty easy..finished part one. Some juice, then part two. We thought we would get the first in our division. But, yes BUT, we didn't. The table right next to us got the first. Varisty 1 and JV 1 got the first and second respectively, but we got nothing. That's pretty sad..
After that we stopped at Wendy's to free our stress (or celebrate for some). The whole bill was like $150, but anyway, who cares. Sigh..
March 6, 2004
Varsity tennis tryouts rest day - so it is, a rest day. No tennis practice/tryouts during the weekend. Confirmed by Jeffrey that I am on of the four to get cut out from varsity, considering 1) I am the youngest; 2) I am also the smallest (physically weaker).
Finally got Photoshop CS to work flawlessly, and by flawlessly I mean no expiration and the function of ctrl keys! Although it does start up slower, the interface looks so much better and the tools are of more variety. Looks good!
March 5, 2004
Varsity tennis tryouts fourth day - doubles again. Partnered with Kennedy vs Teddy and Heckels. Kennedy is literally the third best player, so not much problem and we led 5-1. Then perhaps my performance affected his performance and they caught us closer by 5-4. Still, Kennedy's famous serve blasted them out in the last game by an ace. 6-4. Revenge, Teddy! Revenge!
We did some conditioning after the matches. It was terrible. We had to lie down on our back and with our legs close together, a slight lift off the ground about 4 inches. I rose my leg so high (not trying to look funny) that Mr. Frew shouted, "I bet you are using the metric system." Anyway we were finally freed after those darn exercises. No practice tomorrow. Oh no, term paper rough drafts..help!
March 4, 2004
Varsity tennis tryouts third day - sigh..I guess some of you know what happened. Partnered with Teddy vs Peter and Julius. 6-1, 5-0. That's a huge loss; but what hurts even more..sigh..sigh..
My confidence have seriously been used up; or actually, "consumed". I think they will cut me out from varsity sooner or later. Varsity only wants 8 elite players and there are like 12 from the list now. Somehow I am the worse 4 among the group. Ouch.
March 3, 2004
Varsity tennis tryouts second day - played with my idol, Peter Wyman! He played very well and snatched the first set by 6-0. Not even a game for me. The second set was closer: 6-4. Anyway it was a whole lot of fun until everyone was asked to do five sets of 20 situps + 10 pushups. That was 150 times of ache in my body. Can't take that further..
March 1, 2004 The varsity tennis tryouts are still unknown, but I guess it's tomorrow. Seriously don't think that I will make varsity, probably mid or low jv even, due to my poor performance these days. Feeling terrible about that..sick of tennis!
On a happier note - spring break is only 9 days away from tomorrow. Hope that I will survive through this frustrating period.
Finally changed the pix. It symbolizes the arrival of spring (somehow spring break). So do countdowns now - it won't be long till I return! =)
