November 30, 2004
It turned out to be a good day today. Received my Huck Finn paper, and surprisingly, I got a 4.75! It's by far the best english grade I've got since this september. Another thing received is my chem test; got a 5. It was, seriously, easy..and I could have gotten something higher. But still, it's a good grade after all the 3's..
November will end, in an hour. It's been a very colorful month, and I hope that December would be even more colorful, vivid, and dazzling. I'm sure it would.November 29, 2004
I'm back. Nothing to be sentimental about though..at least I get internet access here. Plus, there's only 15 days till christmas break. Anyway, came across a radically-minimalistic design company called PlusminusZero. Guess what their product below is? Move you mouse on it for answer.
BG Music - 最後的歌 Joey's Version Time for change. Why this one? Well..why not? Its lyrics fit me perfectly. Introducing Miriam's 最後的歌, yet this time sang by Joey. It's a cd version too..though it's been largely unnoticed. Anyway, enjoy.
P.S. I've finally uploaded my dailys from my thanksgiving break. Do spend some time reading them! I don't want my thoughts abandoned..no one does, right?
November 28, 2004
That's it for this years thanksgiving break. 16 days till christmas holiday.
Again, I wonder what I would be doing 24 hrs later?
November 27, 2004
Didn't do much today. Just had lunch at some chinese restaurant and shopped in the afternoon.
Very soon I'll have to wake up early again..so..for the sake of getting more sleep while I can, good nite.
November 26, 2004 Post-thanksgiving Sale!
Post-thanksgiving sale today! Went to Woodbury Premium Outlets at 11..while some insane people woke up at 6 just to get some better bargains.. Anyway, it was packed with people and cars. Guess which store attracted most ppl? Polo? Nope. Hilfiger? Nah.. It's Burberry! A 15-minute line forged in front of its store.. Didn't get much for myself though..only a few clothes. It was a fun day after all.
November 25, 2004 Thanksgiving Day
The whole purpose of thanksgiving is to give thanks, right? Yeah..so..some shoutouts here:
Thank you, thank you.. Thank you, Mum and Dad, for giving me endless opportunities, for supporting me all the time, and for raising me-the-quirky-little-kid up. Thank you, my bro Adrian, for caring about me and supplying abundant jokes + laugh bombs on the phone calls. Thank you, my other family members, for looking out for me. Thank you, my secret admirer, for secretly supporting me. Thank you, Kevin + Thomas + Martin + Michael and my former classmates in lasalle, for showing your care and delivering warm welcomes each and every time I come back to hk. Thank you, Wilson + Justin + Steven + Jeffrey + Derek and my friends at Taft, for tolerating and lifting me up when I feel gloomy and depressed. Thank you, Nikki + Justin + Denise + Jordan and other former PC j.league tennis people, for re-inviting me to play tennis during my holidays. And thank you, everyone else, for reading this..
Don't kill me if your name isn't mentioned.. I know it's a limited list - since I'm relatively a reclusive person, very few ppl really know me; and those who do, know me quite/very well. You are one of the few if your name appears above.
How was my thanksgiving? It was okay.. Around three, we went over to Gigi's house for dinner. Just like last year, I had alot of dessert.. Yum yum..
November 24, 2004
Today is by far the most boring day in my thanksgiving break.. I've basically done nothing except a few sat practice exercises. Btw, I wanna play tennis!
I've been reading How to Ruin your Life (bought two days ago) lately. It's a humorous, sardonic self-help book. Recommended~
November 23, 2004
Went to downtown ny today to shop. Fortunate enough, I came across the huge mall at Columbus Circle my mum and I went in early september. A Borders bookshop was there too, so I freed myself and got some books. Afterwards, I went down to the food market for some cookies + scone for my journey back. There were good~
November 22, 2004
Didn't do much today. Had a bowl of chicken noodle soup for breakfast, it was quite good~ After that I tried to do some math, but my concentration deflected because of my uncle's 3 yr old baby. He kept wandering about my door nagging to play..
Better work hard tmr. Goodnight.
November 21, 2004
"死亡, 是生命的畢業禮."
Just watched a very inspiring episode of 星期日檔案 about facing death. Oh well..when have I become so vulnerable to death? I mean..it's certainly too early to think about it right?
Today I was waken up at 10:39, quickly dressed, and went to chinatown for lunch. Got some snacks too to facilitate my studies. I really have to use my time efficiently now..
November 20, 2004 Happy Birthday, Wilson.
Isn't time amazing? 24 hrs later from my previous post, I'm at nj, fixing my broken notebook. Speaking of that, I have successfully taken my hd out of it and am now retrieving files. Transfer is quite fast too: it transferred 1gb of files in 2 minutes, which means it's roughly 8mb/s. Ooooh..how great is it to see my pictures again!
Unfortunately, this yr my uncle's house no longer have the lightning-fast internet anymore - his son stole the entire setup~ It's positive though..since it helps me concentrate a bit more on sat revisions.
November 19, 2004
Wow..my prediction was right. Stayed till 1:30..yet I've packed 85% of my stuff.
I wonder what I would be doing 24 hrs later?
BG Music - I'll Try Ever feel an urge to do something..yet couldn't quite do it because of cetain limitations? I do. I always do. Just try. Introducing a song from Peter Pan, I'll Try.
November 18, 2004
Received feedback about my english paper. Better than expected. I guess that's good..at least I'm heading towards the right direction. But I still presume that I will stay up till 1 tmr night for it.. Not to mention that I'll have to pack for thanksgiving break..
A few pix (which should be shown yesterday..) to show here. Refer to yesterday's daily if you need to.
November 17, 2004
Received a fair amount of things today. First is a skin type case I ordered for my mini. Fits pretty well~ Second is the wheel +screen protector films for my mini (again) from Kevin. Works without a blemish. Third is an e-ticket for my flight to hk in dec. Fourth..oh..no fourth.
Attended Paul Halley's concert Angel on a Stone Wall just now. It was terrific. Music ranged from classical to New York jazz, New Age music etc. Yet, attending this concert took away two precious hours from me..and I have a draft of a 3-4 page paper due tmr..so it cost me a bit..
November 16, 2004
There seems to be a perpetual development of nostalgia inside me. I rolled over and over on my bed last night, until my brain felt palpable tiredness and my tears depleted that I fell asleep.
Four more days to Thanksgiving. But no, it's nothing big. What I'm looking forward to is Christmas. Less than a month to go. Stay strong.
November 15, 2004
Since xcountry season has officially ended, I now have afternoons free except two of them, which would be committed to volunteering soon. Therefore, today afternoon I renovated my bulletin board. Have a look.
November 14, 2004
A Sunday filled with revision and homework. As always, the week before a holiday (thanksgiving this time)tends to be very chaotic. Teachers who fail to finish their syallabus make up excuses and blame us, moreover, abuse us by assigning excessive amount of hwks. 5 more days.. I hope I'll survive.
BG Music - Can you feel the love tonight It's not really a good time to change..since the 'old' song was introduced only two days ago. But I decided to put something better anyway. Something grand. So here you go: the famous song from Lion King, Elton John's Can you feel the love tonight.
November 13, 2004 Theme Renovation - Presenting Winter Wonderland '04
While some might see this theme renovation as trivial, it's actually quite meaningful to me, since I don't renovate it that often.. Of course, every time I renovate it, it looks even more aesthetically pleasing, and my love for it bear again. In fact, every single pixel on exquix.com had been taken much consideration before being put up. So, with sincere pleasure, enjoy.
It snowed last night. This morning I looked out and couldn't believe my blurry vision..it was all white.. Compare the pix to yesterday's and you'll know it.
Hotchkiss Day '04 So..it was Hotchkiss Day. It was considerably better than last year since we didn't have to travel to Hotchkiss..it's home this time. Unfortunately, our atheletes didn't seem to be playing too well in their own territory. Both boys and girls varsity soccer teams lost..so did varsity field hockey..so did varsity football.. Well, luckily our supreme varsity volleyball team killed the KISS in three games. Way to go for that.
You may review the previous Fresco theme by clicking the button below.
November 12, 2004 Pep Rally '04 "If you look at what you don't have in life, you don't have anything; if you look at what you have in life, you have everything."
Pep Rally '04 took place just now, since tmr's Hotchkiss day. As always, let's kill the KISS!
It snowed again today. Actually, it was more like sleeting, but the campus did look whitish and winter-like afterwards. A pix to show that (taken from my room, of course). Next to that is a pack of delicious biscuits which was devoured by me within 2 mins after taking the picture.
BG Music - My Precious One Time for change again. Introducing Celion Dion's My Precious One.
November 10, 2004 Click to enlarge
Yes, that IS palm os Cobalt 6.1, simulated in windows environment. As an owner of a ppc, it's quite enlightening to see how simple palm os is. And, simpler is better. If only T5 has built-in wifi and cobalt.. Go here if you want to download the simulator. Registration is necessary, but is free. Well, it's meant for 'developers', although everyone can access it. So, have fun.
And happy birthday, Michelle.
November 9, 2004
Terrible day. Revising history to prevent any further low grades. Good nite.
November 8, 2004 Wait..was that snow?
As I walked to Vogue for practice, tiny flakes of snow danced in the wind, and some kissed my cheeks. I held up my hand to welcome them in. At a closer angle they looked more like small parts of hail rather than snow. But it was snow; hail and snow are just different forms of water. So, it snowed! In November! Aw..snow..!!
Meanwhile, Thanksgiving break is around the corner. Only twelve days left..
November 7, 2004
Sooooo stressed up.. Gotta finish my french presentation. Cya.
November 6, 2004 New England Founders League @ Choate "Faith makes all things possible. Love makes them easy."
It was a beautiful day, with plenty of sunshine and brisk winds, to race at Choate for NEFL 2004. Our #1 varsity runner, Peter Murphy, was a shoulder behind his two tough rivals, finishing at 3rd. I myself did badly..106/160. Overall we did an understandably well job, with varsity 5th and jv 6th.
Btw,it was my first time travelling with my mini ipod today. Awh..I couldn't live without it.
My line up # sheet today.November 5, 2004 mini, again "Every dark cloud has a silver lining."
Mini's working pretty well. After more than 4 hours of eager waiting for it to be fully charged, I plugged it in. The flickering screen which says 'do not disconnect' appeared, and I assumed that it was formatting its HD into windows format. The process didn't end in an hour, and for the first time, I thought something was wrong. I terminated the 'iPod service' that ran in the background and formatted manually by windows formatting wizard. It was easy enough - only took a minute. Upon completion, I unplugged it and re-plugged it, but itunes did not automatically recognize the mini. The most logical action would be restarting your computer..and I did. Voila, it then worked. Itunes popped up when I plugged it in.
Almost immediately, I transferred the songs from my library. The mini did get a bit warm, although not hot, but it was noticeable. All in all, setting up the mini was not that hassle-free.. I suspect that all minis are pre-formatted to the mac file system. That's great for mac users, but then, I'm not one of them. Nonetheless, after these initial setups, transferring songs to the mini is simple and fast.
P.S. Folks, don't be discouraged. It's the experience that matters, not the result. Now, with one less chore to worry about, focus on your CE! Endless supplies of support/encouragement available.
"Whassup with that sad eye.. I see your true colors shining through.. are beautiful like a rainbow.."
November 4, 2004 mini.. mini.. mini..
As you all know, I am that kind of person who won't allow myself to fall behind other people. After seeing many of my friends obtaining ipods, especially minis, I decided to go for it. Now, it's right next to me; and I don't know how to express my excitement.
my mini | When I received the package, I couldn't believe how small it is. I thought that they might have mis-shipped something to me. Apparently, they didn't, since when I opened the package, a tiny box with a silver mini's pix appeared. I have not mentioned this before, but Apple actually downgraded mini's box/packaging a while ago. Fortunately, it appears suitable to me, since a mini fits better in a mini box. And the accesseries are certainly abundant, though not extravagant. The unit looks coolly silverish (of course, it's a silver one..), but there is one thing: the pre-attached wheel film is not placed properly. Well, it might not be a big issue, since most people peel it off anyway. But for me, placing it properly shows true craftsmanship, which I very much expect to receive in an Apple product. Nonetheless, unpacking the mini was truly an amazing experience.
It's still charging. Remember the case I bought some time ago? It was terrible. Although it fits nicely on the mini, it is extremely hard to take off. It took me five minutes to remove my mini from the 'death grip'.
November 3, 2004
We all hoped that Kerry would win; yet we bore the common burden that Bush's re-election was inevitable. And it was. Another four years to bear.
Contrarily, our very own mockup election gave Kerry a huge win with 508 electoral votes, leaving only 38 for Bush. Told ya, Taft's pretty much dominated by democrats..
November 2, 2004 False Alarm..
Our very democratic teachers decided to do a mockup election here. So, around noon, most students casted their ballots. Well, the results are supposed to be out tonight. We'll see how it goes.
Meanwhile, I received a package that resembles the cubic box of a mini ipod. Unfortunately, it was proved a false alarm.
Click to see what's inside.November 1, 2004 Thx Mr. Wu!
Wow..a month again. In less than three weeks, thanksgiving holiday will start, then exams will commence, and so will christmas. Time flies; it really does.
The auditorium erupted, with a few hyperbolic students springing up from their seats. For the first time in Taft history, a headmaster's holiday was given by a 'non-headmaster'. Who was it? Our dear Sir Gordon Wu, or actually, Sir Gordon "I'm-Not-Headmaster-But-My-Heinous-Amounts-Of-Money-Allow-Me-To-Declare-Headmaster's-Holidays" Wu. Here's the letter he addressed to everyone of us:
Unfortunately I don't quite remember such 'chinese' proverb he mentioned. Oh well..
BG Music - True Colors Time for change. Introducing Kelly's True Colors. Dare to be yourself; show your true colors.
