Daily // April 2005

April 30, 2005
On the last day of april, nothing persuaded me to take my conclusion, "april ends in disaster", back. If any, today only strengthened my argumenet. Why? Well, first it rained today. Then, consequently, our match against Loomis was canceled. So in the afternoon I basically drifted through it, not doing anything at all.

After ordering-out for dinner, I went to watch the play - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It was alrite. Nothing was particularly striking or worth mentioning about.

Perhaps, as Mrs. M suggests, it's "one of those just-fine weeks that you want it to pass by quickly". Yes, indeed.
April 29, 2005   April ends in disaster
Is it true that we have to confront the past before moving on?
So, yesterday I played my challenge match against Eli, and well, lost miserably by 2-6 5-7. It was definitely one of the worst matches I've ever played. His 'pushing' style penetrated through my mental toughness and destroyed my game. Ranking #5 in jv now..even worse than last yr.

Can I move on now?

Tiger is released (to be precise, at 6) today. Found its wallpaper.

I thought of giving up today's daily..but decided not to. Why? Because it means alot to me. Keeping track of my thoughts everyday makes it so much more easier for me to reflect and navigate through my past. For example, if you suddenly ask me "what did you do on april 26?" a year later, I probably would have no idea. But when I read what I write, it might bring up bits of memories of what I did on that day.

So, what happened today? Nothing much..really. Normal practice and oh, sit-down was canceled. A "pulled" pork sandwich feed was also held. It was alrite. You know, I still marvel how we describe it as a "feed". What are we, cows or something?
April 25, 2005
On this chilly and cloudy day, we had practice outside until the rain came and forced us into the gym room - a place I'm not acquainted with at all.
Well, that's it..

Tired after a day of work. So..good nite.
April 23, 2005   ILY
Just want to say a happy birthday to this special person on this special day. Silently, I sing for you in my heart..

Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you..
Happy birthday to y-o-u,
happy birthday.. to.. you..

And I shall do so on the same day next year, and the next year, the next-next year..quietly and namelessly..until my heart shatters into pieces so unrecognizable..

Feel caressed.. Get ready to sleep..

P.S. Meanwhile we won our match against KO today. Their indoor courts were kinda nice. Anyhow, their team proved too young to challenge us.

Xzy*!&#(@)!**%!!
I actually lost to Bobby today..5-7, 2-6.. Breaking down..breaking down.
April 21, 2005
It's my grandma's birthday today. Happy Birthday to her.
When I was warming up for my challenge match against Bobby this afternoon, the varsity team suddenly needed a few playes for exhibition matches against Avon. And surely, I partnered Heckel for #4 doubles and Pete partnered Hank for #5 doubles. Well, Heckel and I lost..in a way. Yet we played some nice points and our opponents were good too.

I have refrained from using wmp for awhile since I use itunes most of the time. Yet I found this nice wmp skin that mimics the itunes widget in tiger's dashboard pretty well. Get it here.

Win over Berkshire today. 7-0. (6-3, 6-0 for my singles).

It's actually 3:11am on april 21st now. Why am I still awake? Well, partly because I'm studying.. Another reason is that at 2am the fire alarm went on and woke everyone up.. Then we went back to our rooms, ready to return to sleep, only to hear it ringing again. Oh well, whatever. I need some rest. Desperately. Bye for now.
April 18, 2005
Long day..long day.. Good nite..
April 17, 2005
Spent almost the whole day in ny for a concert at St. John the Divine. It was alrite. The better parts of the trip were the refreshments and the v&t pizza place, where we had our dinner. Better work now..no more staying up till 2.

Meanwhile, the conclave begins tmr. More information here.
April 16, 2005
Our team lost to Deerfield today by 3-4. I won my singles match (6-4, 3-6, 2-1 (tiebreak 7-5)) though. Anyway, I really got to sleep now.. Waking up early for a concert in ny tmr.
April 15, 2005
It's Grandparent's Day today. Well, basically, it's another opportunity for the school to scrape money from these old folks.

Practice as usual in the afternoon. Partnered with boddy and clay to decide on our doubles formations for our match tmr against Deerfield. It'll be an intense match, I believe. We'll see.
April 14, 2005
I ended up writing my essay till 2 this morning. It made me tired and sleepy all day long. Probably because of that, I lost my challenge match against Hank by 7-5, 7-5. We played some good tennis, and I could definitely have won if I didn't miss those opportunity-points. Oh well, hope that I'll sustain my position and challenge him again two weeks later.
April 13, 2005
Well, I gotta finish my essay now. So..
April 12, 2005
Wrote this in english class today (among other activities). It surprised me how much and how well (not referring nor specifying..) we are able to write within 9-mins when focused.

9-min Postcard Story Writing   by me
Listen, I say, can you hear me listening.
She starts singing again. The tune sounded almost romantic this time. As she sings, she flaps her wings and puffs her chest.
I always wonder if such singing would end up attracting a hunter.
She stops singing. Too nervous to move, I stay and listen. Her eyes, so beautiful - like shiny beads, explores around.
I can no longer listen or wait. I spread my wings, trying to look as elegant as possible, and fly towards her.
As if able to feel moving wind, she turns her head and looks at me. She is the one, I say to myself.
Something reached her before I did. A sharp noise occured. Gracefully, she fell from the branch.

Back to work today. Attempted to finish my english critical essay, but it didn't turn out well..

April 10, 2005   Happy Birthday..to me!
Thanks to everyone who made my day!
Woke up at 9 this morning and whispered "happy birthday" to myself. In the next two hrs, I renovated my site. 'Lighten up' is the theme's name. Hope you like it. Anyway, after lunch, played some tennis with jeff for a while. We played a total of four sets..which wasn't that tiring actually. Also played some frisbee and soccer then. Fun came afterwards. The seven of us, Chris, Steven, Wilson, Derek, Jeffrey, Justin, and me, walked down (supposedly a 20 min walk) to pizzahut for dinner. Yeah..pizzahut.. Oh well.. It was fun and enjoyable nonetheless (our table was the noisiest one). On the way back, we sang and shouted as if we were drunk.. Believe me, it was just a way to show our ecstasy, not our drunkenness.

My resolutions for the year to come? Well, there are too many. But most importantly, I hope that I'll make better decisions, be more sociable, and work harder. That sums it up.. Sigh.. I may no longer say "I am sixteen going on seventeen" now.. Those who can still say it, treasure your chances!

April 9, 2005
I don't want to repeat what I said last year, but as to show how time flies by, I have to - two yrs ago on today I was still having my bday lunch with my friends in hk.. Even if it doesn't feel like yesterday, it defnitely doesn't feel long ago..

So, two yrs later, what did I do? In the morning, we had normal saturday classes. After lunch and an-hour of 'bu', I went to brooks to get some refreshments. Red and blue.. Red and blue.. Anyway, for dinner, Steven, Chris and I ordered chinese food and it tasted alrite..

PS. I still can't believe that I'm going on 17..

Oh, and my site reads 5600 visits today. Bravo..bravo..

April 8, 2005
Normal tennis practice in the afternoon. Played some tiebreaks and lost twice. Also had some tormenting leg-lift exercises. That's about it..

Thanks; though next time I would suggest that you 'try it before you buy it', or at least take a closer look...
April 7, 2005   Weatherman
Had an 'out long' tennis practice session today. Why 'out long'? Well, it just means that we're practicing for over two hours. We did a few rounds of 10-pt serve games and some individual serve-inspections.

Sit-downs also started tonight. They'll basically take place every tuesday and thursday until long-weekend.

Pouring pretty hard outside now.. You know, I kinda wish that I could control weather.. Or have the weather reflect my mood - sunny when I'm cheerful, cloudy when I'm gloomy, and of course, rainy when I break down. Would that make it rain too often? Well..just a thought. Anyway, when will it stop raining?
April 6, 2005   Victory
Our team tasted the first victory of the season, crushing Kent 7-0 (9-0 including exhibition matches). Played a doubles exhibition with jeff at first..which was quite awkward - #3 paired with #9? We won 8-5. For my singles, I played this guy who simply plays badly. Won by 8-1. Afterwards we had dinner at a local deli shop. Besides getting a tuna salad sandwich, I also bought some cookies to stock up my snack collection.

My birthday is right around the corner. Perhaps I should make a list of turning-17-resolutions? I don't know..I really don't..
April 5, 2005   #3
Finally. I won my challenge match against Bobby today. Well, he retired when I was leading 6-3 1-0, since he strained his back. But that still counts as a win. And for tmr, where our first match will take place (against Kent, away), I'll be playing at #3 as well. Hope that it'll be a good start to the season.
April 4, 2005
Our whole campus was packed with the so-called 'second visitors' today. Well, second visitors are those who are accepted to Taft but needs to tour around (again) for deiciding to come or not. To show some minimal effort, collegium sang two songs before these ppl left. Second visits continues tmr and on friday.

In the afternoon, under windy conditions, we had tennis practice. After hitting doubles with tyler against conroy + eli c, I played another 21-game with tyler and damn-it!, he won again (21-14 this time..). He will be taken over next time, I vow!
April 3, 2005
While I was messing around in photoshop (attempting to get a new logo for spring..), I made this:

It looks an awful lot like a sushi restaurant's banner..which is why I added 'sushi deli' in the end. Well, serendipity, I say.

BG Music - ¶û±ó
Well, it seems that I haven't change the bg music for a whole month. Here you go, Gigi's ¶û±ó, piano version.
Enjoy.

Btw, I do like this 'mustard green' very much..
April 2, 2005   Hypnotist
This evening, after having chinese food with Wilson, Steven, Justin, Derek, John and Chris (in my room), we went down to watch the hypnotist, or actually, to watch those who become hypnotized make fun of themselves. And so we did. Twelve volunteers went on the stage and within ten minutes, 11 of them were successfully hypnotized. Well, by 'hypnotized' I mean that the hypnotist can talk to them and give them instructions, such as "now, the person whom I'm tapping on the shoulder listen carefully, when I say the word 'floor' your shoe gets on fire and you take it off immediately" or "everytime I say the word taft you do a sexy dance for 4 seconds". Apparently, some audiences were accidentally hypnotized and one even got involved into the show. The hypnotist was also able to wake them up (back to consciousness) in the middle of the show, confuse them, and re-hypnotize them when he shouted "sleep". It was, besides unbelievable, hilarious.

You know, I always think that for things like hypnotizing, you have to see it to believe it. And tonight, I did, and now I'm still marveling on what I saw and well, I'll get over it.
April 1, 2005
It's April, my birth-month, again. Time seems to pass quicker as I grow older.

So, today's April fools day. Did I get tricked? Nah..not a chance. Weather was wet this morning, but gradually turned sunny in the afternoon, so outdoor tennis was possible. Nothing much this time..just played an intense 21-game with Tyler. Well, despite utilizing some of my best skills and saving four match points, he was lucky and won 25-23. Until next monday.
