Daily // April 2006

April 30, 2006

On the last day of April, I spent my whole day working on assignments due tmr. If this month could be representation by a graph, it must be e^(-x). After my rather memorable birthday, everything just plummeted. I really am counting down the days, because I believe this situation can only be resolved by getting out of here. I want a spontaneous, impulsive life.

April 29, 2006

Thirds won their match against Westminster today (6-1). The score is misleading as we had a few close matches, but I guess I'll take it. After the match we drove to mcdonald's for a snack (some consider it dinner) and to Carvel's for icecream. This is probably my third meal at M's this year.

Well, I planned to start my French project tonight, and obviously I failed to do so. I feel so depleted by doing absolutely nothing. Suffice to say, senior spring has a negative effect on me. It's like I'm counting down the days till Graduation..

P.S. Suite or rooms?

April 28, 2006

A very busy Friday with almost all classes - and for most of them, we were preparing for something. AP Calc is on next wednesday, Physics and Chemistry the following week, and my French project due on the coming Monday. It seems like I won't have a weekend again..

Enjoy Faye's ªÅ«°. I still consider this the best in that album.

April 27, 2006

Had a normal thirds practice today - did some drills, a round robins series and a fun game in the end. Also stopped by Stop&Shop afterwards for some serious stock-up. S&S is the most contemporary grocery store around Watertown and unfortunately it is somewhat hidden in the newly-developed hillside. It has those self-service check-out aisles with touch panels and automatic belts that save labor costs and add a new dimension in shopping. It's fun using them..at least for the second time.

After more than a month of hindrance in my layout redesigning process (all because of senior spring, which makes me slothful and lackadaisical), I plan to dive back into project codename infinix soon. Hopefully I'll have more details on the weekend.

April 25, 2006

AP exams are around the corner. Hopefully I'll breeze myself through the finish line.

April 23, 2006

So, yesterday was spent mostly on the trip to NYC. We sang in St. James Chapel, just like last year, and we did quite well. But as usual, the intriguing part of the trip came after our performance. We had a small reception next to the chapel and some snacks were served. Then we crossed the street to dine at a place called V&T pizza, which is supposedly Mrs. Fifer's favorite restaurant though till this day we still don't get why. Chris and I had an hawaiain pizza to ourselves. A fun time was had by all.

Rain continued to fall today. When will it stop?

April 22, 2006

It's 2:37am on 23rd now. I should take some rest..

Spring II

Somethings things don't go as they should, or could. When you want x to happen, y happens instead. How long will this continue for?

The picture is actually taken two days ago. You know, with my prime room location, I could record how the seasons change and compile an album called "The Four Seasons at Taft". Anyway..we might have a match tmr, and I'm saying "might" because there's a 90% precipitation chance. Please let it rain (Eugene's thinking of a rain dance now) - even though we don't have class tmr, Collegium has to perform at NYC on sunday, which basically takes up the whole day. Give me my weekend back..

P.S. Happy Birthday, Grandma.

April 19, 2006

Was my entry yesterday sort of cryptic? Maybe.. But when certain people read it, they'll understand. Anyway, today was just another normal wednesday - half-day classes and a whole afternoon free. Well, not really. I had a physics take-home-test-like packet to finish. The pressure of AP exams is on, and I must do well.

Kelly Clarkson's voice is truly flawless. Breakaway maybe a year old, but everytime I listen to it, it's like the first time. Enjoy.

Breakaway   Kelly Clarkson

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

*I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

Repeat *

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

April 18, 2006

For one moment, the definition of friends had blurred..

April 17, 2006

Just one thing to show today: a floorplan for my possible dorm next year. Among the housing choices for freshman (AMR I & II, Buildings A & B, Wolman), Wolman seems to be the best fit for me - rather quiet location with suites instead of just rooms. Suites usually include two seperate rooms (two double rooms or one double one single), a kitchenette and a bathroom. It's better than sharing a larger kitchen and a bathroom with the entire floor, isn't it?

Spring

The sun was out today, and since tmr's a holiday, we decided to play some tennis. It was actually quite chilly outside, with wind gusting through the courts. I partnered with Khoa vs Dan and Jeffrey - quite surprisingly, we lost both sets, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6). Maybe it's because that I'm using my old racket..

Before tennis, I spotted four people sitting on the wayside, perhaps waiting for a cab to the mall. It's got good composition, ya?

April 15, 2006

My french presentation went well. I panicked when I couldn't find my partner last night but today it turned out fine. The weather did, too. In the morning, it was wet and muggy; but in the afternoon the sun came out from behind the clouds, which is why I decided to take a walk to Brooks. Well, no enthusiasm was received, so I had to go alone.. Gladly, I did some soul-searching. It's always nice to have such moments in life.

Life for me, in a larger sense, isn't going so well. I want to escape from the restrictions being posed on me now. I want an impulsive, spontaneous lifestyle. When will that come?

April 14, 2006

There seems to be something wrong with the network.. I have to go all the way to the library to upload. When will such inconvenience cease?
French presentation tmr. Hopefully my preparation will pay off.

April 13, 2006   Love Paradise

New song today - something more soft and touchy. It's actually a song I really liked in summer '05, because everytime I hear the tune, it reminds me of that summer, my family, friends and the wonderful time we had. So, enjoy.

Oh btw, our t-shirts arrived today. The order turned out to be close to $500, so each one costs about $12. I expected something worse..but gladly the CT shirtman proved me wrong. Let's take a look.

The final logo design

The printed version - how long will it last before fading away?

April 11, 2006

Today was back to normal, or though some still tried to say "happy belated" to me. Coached tennis this afternoon - actually, more like overseeing the team, but definitely not managing the team. A manager brings water and pick up balls, while a coach prepares the schedule and plans tactics. They're very different jobs. Anyway, I have a french quiz tmr; hopefully I'll do well.

April 10, 2006   Happy 18th Birthday to me

I'm 18! Besides meaning I'm legal now, it seems like I've crossed the step between being a boy and a man. I've always felt like our age could be used against us, for example, you only need you say "You're xxxx years old!" and the person will feel very juvenile. But now I guess reaching 18 helps you cross the mental border of behaving more like an adult. Indeed, I'm an adult now. (A deep, adult-like sigh..)

Thanks to all those who made my birthday so memorable.

April 9, 2006

The sun was finally out today and we played some tennis after brunch. First, I partnered Doug Moses for a doubles match against Nathan and Jason. It was more of a game than a match. Afterwards, I played with Chris and M individually. I was cracking up incessantly - Chris' jokes never stopped to get me laugh. That's that for today.

Well, technically, I'm already 18 in HK time. But I guess I'll just wait for an hr more and call it official, ya?

April 8, 2006

Went our for a small pre-birthday dinner at Matteos with Wilson, Chris, Jeffrey, Lee, Derek and Julia. The food was delicious and we had an amazing time. In the end we were all too full to get dessert, though from the tone of the waitress, she probably would have served it free.

Well, the pix I took tonight look too poor to be put here. Maybe it's time for a new camera?

*        *        *

Just as I thought the night was good enough, a surprise came. I went to the bathroom and came back and Wilson's room was dark. Voila! A big and heavy present was given to me. Wow..this really reminds me of my birthday two years ago, though the present that time was a cake. We then watched Memoirs of a Geisha till midnight. It was terrific.

April 6, 2006   T30

Five day weeks are only nice when you finish the last class on friday. Still have physics test to review and 10 pages of french play to read.

Just one more thing: Song introduced T30 today. I was surprised by the name - it doesn't harmonize with the others and is easily confused with T33. I thought it would be named T100. T30 will have 7.2 megapixels, a 3-inch lcd, and the anti-shake technology as used on T9. In fact, the two are almost identical in size. Below is a high resolution image for your viewing pleasure.

April 4, 2006   Breakfast Streak

Thirds tennis tryouts ended today. As an assistant coach, I was there to provide a second pair of eyes for the final cut and tentative roster. Guess what? We'll have our first match tmr against Kent. It should be a good indication of how accurate our ladder is.

Meanwhile, I'm still suffering from my sickness. Believe it or not, I ended the streak of not-eating-breakfast-since-september (not including holidays) by getting a donut and a cup of tea with honey this morning. Maybe a breakfast makes the difference. Let's hope that I decide to do the same tmr.

April 3, 2006   Trouble Sleeping

I dislike making other people worried of me, so most of the time I laugh and smile even when I feel terrible inside. Well, today I'd like to say that I feel sick, tired and enervated. Saying it just makes me feel better now.

I'd like to introduce to you another song from The O.C. Mix 2 album today - Trouble Sleeping by The Perishers. The album is superb - a great mix of pop, rock and more from some less known bands. Oh, one more thing: how do you like this version of my favorite song?

April 1, 2006
Johns Hopkins - Class of 2010

Well, it's decided. I'm going to JHU next year, which means that I'll be in Baltimore for the next four years. Quite exciting, ya?

It's April, again. The reemergence of flowers, leaves, and all the colorfull things just naturally remind me of my birthmonth. It should be a fun month - I've accepted the favor of assisting thirds tennis, so I will be semi-coaching the team starting next monday. I get to play tennis and help out a team; isn't this a win-win situation?

By the way, March's visits count slightly dropped. I suppose it's because I had a few lapses of disappearance at that time. Anyway, the cut is from 9845 - 10292, suggesting a total of 447 visits, averaging 14.4 per day. Thanks for your continual support.
