Happy halloween.

Happy Birthday Thomas.

October 29, 2007

Business law midterm was tricky today. Or maybe I didn't memorize enough to be 100% sure about every question. I really hope it will turn out well.

Quite strangely, I have become one of the people who stay up late (i.e. 2-3am). I need to adjust my cycle back to where it was..

October 28, 2007

Busy day, busy week.

October 27, 2007

Today was business law day. So is tomorrow. Tired..sleepy.
Oh, for those leopard users reading this, if you use Inquisitor as religiously as I do, you'll notice that it disappeared from safari. Thats because Apple disabled the inputmanager-based plug-ins. To resolve this, simply install PlugSuit.

OS X Leopard

Went to towson with Derek in the afternoon on this exceedingly rainy day. I bought a lot of things today..obviously leopard was one of them. Around 5pm, we lined up outside the apple store (we were roughly in positions 24 and 25). There was an apple employee eager to give away water + starbucks coffee, which was nice. Around 6pm, there were cheers from the closed store (the store closed at 4pm to stock leopard) and at 6pm, the gates opened. We were greeted by a whole line of employees and were handed one M tshirt each. To be honest, $129 is not something I'd normally spend on software, but today's experience was worth it. As I told Derek before we stepped into the store to get our copies, I felt nervous and as if I won a price. Here're some pix.

And for those wondering if they should upgrade, do a clean install or archive and install, I really recommend upgrading. I thought an upgrade would slow down the system, but I was quite wrong indeed. Now everything seems to run faster Plus, I don't have to install everything again..

October 25, 2007

What a long day. Well, the most notable thing today, beside the once again gloomy/muggy/rainy weather, I cooked bulgogi for dinner. It tasted okay. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures since I was qite busy so I couldn't show you.

There're people who installed leopard already. I can't wait to get it tmr.

October 24, 2007

Weather was dismal today. But while others rant about how rain annoys them, I beg to differ. I cannot say that I've always enjoyed rainy days, but I've always enjoyed the cleansing sensation rain brings. (Looks at time.) Okay I shall sleep now. Bye.

Oh, an intersting (but old) tirade about Leopard's new dock. If you're wondering if Apple changed this, it did. The dock will look like this when it's place on the side instead of the bottom.

October 21, 2007

I forgot to upload this last night/earlier today.
So today I worked on my two papers + one presentation. Thats about it. Oh, maybe I should tell you my small incident of setting the smoke detecting alarm. Nick asked me to cook the roast beef, so I baked it in the oven. After more than 30 minutes of baking, the meat-thermometer displayed that it hasn't even reached halfway for medium setting. I then hastily decided to crank the oven temperature to 525F. Well, in another 30 minutes or so, the meat-thermometer beeped and I took the dish out from the oven. Well, the sliced onions were gone. Instead, there was a layer of charcoal at the bottom of the vegetables e.g. potatoes and carrots. It looked very dried up, so I poured some water on it. White smoke arose and triggerd the smoke detector. Thankfully in Homewood the smoke detectors are apartment specific so it didn't cause an evacuation of the building..

Everyday I wake up, I feel like there're a million things in line for me to do.
Why can't we just be farmers?

Today was so tiring. I only sleep 4 hrs and basically worked all day for my tech comm project. I need more sleep (and better quality of sleep). So good night.

蘋果洋蔥豬扒

This evening Lili and I attemped to make something we saw on 大小愛吃 - apple and onion pork. Well, it turned out quite good, thought it seems like a..'child-dish'. Ya, children will definitely like it.

After dinner hksa hanged out at coffee grounds in Nolan's. It was fun re-living everyone's (especially Amy's) clumsiness.

Busy, busy weekend. Ugh.

A couple of hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin shared with the world the secret of his success. Never leave that till tomorrow, he said, which you can do today. This is the man who discovered electricity. You think more people would listen to what he had to say. I don't know why we put things off, but if I had to guess, I'd have to say it has a lot to do with fear. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, sometimes the fear is just of making a decision, because what if you're wrong? What if you're making a mistake you can't undo? The early bird catches the worm. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. We can't pretend we hadn't been told. We've all heard the proverbs, heard the philosophers, heard our grandparents warning us about wasted time, heard the damn poets urging us to seize the day. Still sometimes we have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today's possibility under tomorrow's rug until we can't anymore. Until we finally understand for ourselves what Benjamin Franklin really meant. That knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beats the hell out of never trying.

My towel hanger in the bathroom fell off (finally). I said 'finally' because a few weeks ago my roommate's fell off already, so it's a matter a time that mine falls. It also scraped some wallpaper off. Perhaps I should just drill a sturdier hanger this time. Anyone with a driller?

October 16, 2007

Today was a rather dull day. I bumped into Eleen during the day, and saw that she was dressed up for her job interview. It really makes me wonder what would I be doing two years down the road. Being interviewed for a job? Or by a school? I dislike unknowns more than I dislike celery.

Long Island

I arrived in NYC around 2pm after a 4 hr drive from downtown Baltimore last friday. Needless to say, the passengers on greyhound buses are quite, you know.. But that excludes me of course. As I walked out of the bus terminal (port authority on 42 st 8th ave), I recognized the familiar Westin hotel, as well as the familiar 吉野家 on the same block. Sadly, the food quality in that particular 吉野家 dropped.. They now serve in disposable bowls and the beef is different from before. I was also hurried to finish lunch quickly so Steven could pick me up without being trapped in traffic.

After a long, long 4-hr traffic-jam-packed ride, I got to South hampton in Long Island. I'm going to skip the details of what I did during my stay there, since you can better imagine it yourself through these pictures/this album. Enjoy.

My trip back was also quite uneventful, but to recap, I was dropped off in Chinatown in Flushing meadows, then metro-ed on no.7 to times square, bus-ed to baltimore then bus-ed through mta to hopkins.

This week will be quite busy, as I have two papers due next week. Good luck to me.

October 11, 2007

This afternoon I went to court again, this time accompanying Lihan. After observing a sentencing trial, we walked to inner harbor and had dinner at Edo's sushi. We ordered A LOT of food..but I (yes, I, not we) managed to eat all of them. We then walked all the way back to the washington monument to take the jhmi back.

I'm visiting Steven in Long Island this weekend (fall break). Since I'm not bringing my macbook (pro) with me, you might not see me here till monday. But I might surprise you and appear here.

October 8, 2007

My two midterms were okay today. Financial accounting was quite easy, while statics was a bit iffy. I wasn't sure about the last problem.. (there were only four) This past few days had been really tiring as I slept as little as 5 hours per day.

Btw, if you drink tea as often as I do, you will undoubtedly encounter an unwanted sight - tea stains in your cup. Well, I googled several methods to remove such stains, and after experimenting with it, I discovered that the best way is to rub it with toothpaste. (Some people recommended salt or vinegar, but they don't work for me.) If your toothpaste has baking soda, thats even better. Cheers for clean cups.

After listening/watching yesterday's clip, compare and contrast it with today's:

P.S. New Roombas!

October 7, 2007

Overall a very tiring day. I basically stayed in my apartment all day. Sadly not all of my designated time was used for studying for two midterms tmr.. For example, I kept playing this song (and singing along) on youtube:

Let me just review the materials a bit more and go to bed. Peace.

Happy Birthday, Renee.
Cookout was quite good/okay.

Study time.

October 5, 2007

This morning I went to do my court observation with Amy in the Circuit Court near inner harbor. How was it? Well, it took a while to find a case to observe since some proceedings didn't actually proceed as scheduled. Amy had better luck as the one she picked was proceeded on time.

After court I went to Mattin to set up our booth for the cultural block party and waited for our food to come. The first step took us 1 minute while the latter took 2 hrs. Apparently the food we ordered couldn't be delivered since the restaurant's car broke down. It did come eventually, but not until the afternoon rush was over, which was not a bad thing in hindsight, since we got to eat the food ourselves.

As I was watching Koukou Kyoushi, I heard this song. It's quite a sad song, and I've heard it a few times before (somewhere). It's definitely not depressive, but it is quite saddening (if you think it's soothing..well it could be soothing sometimes..).

October 4, 2007

Today was an interesting day. As I was working on statics hwk during the afternoon, James asked if I wanted to go to Ikea. "YES!" I said. So we did. We left around 6pm, had dinner in burger king (which was quite good actually), stopped by at BestBuy and visited Ikea for just 15 minutes. Why? We got lost on the way and arrived around 8:45pm (it closes at 9pm). I got a door mirror and a pot strainer that looks like this. I wanted to get this but they don't have it in stock yet. I need to go there again. =D

Time is now 2:30am. It seems that I'm up later and later everyday. I just can't put myself to bed at night..

This song is for my little brother. Hope you like it.

October 2, 2007

Today was quite a busy day. After statics, I went to discuss our tech comm project (that is still quite vague at this stage). We have to make a report and presentation on "new innovations in decision making". Great. Could it be more vague. After that I went home and ate 6 scoops of cookies n' cream ice cream, which made me quite full. I then headed to an info session on HBS's new 2+2 mba program. After that Lihan and I had dinner (later joined by Derek and Kevin) at Niwana. Strangely, we both ordered soup-related entrées, namely spicy seafood soup and mandu guk (spelling).. It tasted okay.

Time is now 2:20am. I should sleep. Bye.

October 1, 2007 Start of the month

I had a job interview today. Before I say anything, here is a description of the job:

The department of formal and applied linguistics (UFAL) at the Charles University of Prague is developing a corpus of semantic annotations of wall-street journal articles. This annotation effort is the latest stage of an ongoing project to annotate a large corpus of Czech and English data with multiple layers of linguistic information including morphology, syntax, deep-syntax, and a semantic representation. Once the annotation effort is complete, the corpus will be made available through the Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC); current version of the corpus have already been made available through LDC.

It sounds a bit boring, doesn't it? But anyway.. After a brief interview, they reminded me that they are looking for native English speakers, which basically means I'll be considered when no such candidates are hired. -_-"

FYI, last month's total visit is 426 (18258-18697), averaging a disappointing 14.2 visits per day. That's kind of expected (especially since I didn't show up for 7 consecutive days). Let's do better this month.

Oh, I received this today. (Thx) (Excuse the quality.. my phone's camera has no macro nor autofocus.)
